Midnight High is an indie pop band, based out of Seattle, WA. Founding members Nik Singleton and Luke Dumke blend elements of dream pop, indie rock, and synthwave to create a sound that is both contemporary and deeply nostalgic.
The couple conceptualized the project in 2020 and began the process of writing and self-producing their first full-length album in 2021 with the goal of building something new and meaningful together. Something that could serve as a catalyst for artistic collaboration, community building, and new experiences.
The collaborative writing process for what would eventually become their debut album, Swimming Lessons, began with Luke fleshing out instrumentation and musical arrangements for Nik to then craft lyrical and melodic ideas over. The duo whittled down a compilation of demos into a collection of 10 strong songs that they deemed worthy of advancing to the recording and production phase. For help with pre production of the album, Nik and Luke then teamed up with Jessica Dobson of Deep Sea Diver to begin a collaborative process of refining musical ideas and arrangements. From there, they undertook the process of recording the album at the couple's recording studio, Pinehill, in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, with Luke acting as producer and engineer. While the majority of the album’s instrumentation was written and performed by Luke, with vocal performances and arrangements by Nik, the two enlisted a few friends and Seattle musicians to help contribute a touch of collaborative energy to the process.* Once the recording process was complete, Andy D. Park (Now, Now, Pedro The Lion) was brought on to mix the album which was then finally passed along to Ed Brooks (Death Cab For Cutie, Minus The Bear) for mastering. Swimming Lessons is set for a 2023, worldwide release.
